Phoenix Green MachineFive Phoenix Solar Case Studies

This truly Green Machine is being installed all around the country.
Here are some specific projects in California.
Many designers today are interested in exceeding the California Title 24 energy code by 15%, 25% or even building Zero Energy homes. The Phoenix Solar is an elegant means to achieve all these goals by providing 96% domestic hot water, hydronic space heating and solar thermal all in one compact appliance. Many Phoenix Solar Systems are currently being installed. Below are just a few select projects in California for your consideration.

David Gottfried, Founder of the U.S. Green Building Council, Endorses Phoenix Solar

David Gottfried“I have put Phoenix Solar in my home, intending to be the first LEED for Home Platinum residential remodel project in the Bay Area, because this one appliance provides multiple benefits. I receive 96% efficient domestic hot water, comfortable 96% efficient hydronic heating and solar hot water, all in one sealed combustion, PVC vented package that is connected to the solar collectors on my roof.”

“The Phoenix Solar blends the best in hot water energy generation with the benefits of renewal energy in one Green Machine. It is gratifying to know that the Green Movement is spurring development of products like this. The Phoenix Solar receives generous credit within Title 24 in California making compliance much easier and a great foundation for exceeding Title 24 significantly. The fact that I can get the comfort of hydronic heating while doing the right thing provides more incentive for home owners to go Green with their projects.”

How Does Phoenix Solar Work?

The Phoenix Solar is a durable stainless steel tank featuring an immersed, cupronickel combustion chamber, surrounded by potable water and a direct gas fired, modulating burner system. The combustion chamber is located in the middle of the tank permitting the use of a cupronickel finned heat exchanger coil in the bottom of the tank for transfer of solar energy to the surrounding water. As the solar energy is collected during the day the hot water is stacked in the tank, disabling a call for gas fired hot water generation.
The concept is not new. Hundreds of thousands of solar hot water systems use the same principal in Europe each year. They call it single tank bivalent solar heating, just to be fancy. In Europe they use two indirect coils. Here in America we use a direct fired approach. In any case this design eliminates the space and expense of two tanks.

Phoenix Solar System: Each Phoenix Solar is a package that includes the Phoenix Solar, solar collectors, pump/control station and valves that have been certified as a solar system by the Solar Rating and Certification Corporation, the performance rating system for the industry and required for compliance with the solar tax credits and pending state rebate programs. SRCC certification is a must for residential solar hot water systems and the only source for independent performance evaluati
